Latin jazz great Poncho Sanchez is in Bermuda and gearing up for what he promises to be a red hot night of salsa music. Mr. Sanchez is the opening act for this year’s Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts.
He’s been in the business for more than three decades and this year received the Latin Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Latin music. “I guess that means I’m old,” he said while relaxing in the lobby of the Fairmont Southampton.
Mr. Sanchez and his eight-piece band perform tonight [Jan 18] and tomorrow night at 8:30pm at the Mid Ocean Amphitheatre. He brought his wife Stella to enjoy the island with him on this trip and he said they plan to take some walks, relax and enjoy the Island.
